31  General Category / General Club Discussion / EF-1 & Parkzone racing in Woodland on: March 25, 2013, 07:21:45 AM
Guys,

Coming up next month on April 20th & 21st, the Woodland/Davis Aeromodelers Club is hosting an EF-1 & Parkzone race. The races are two separate one day events. That works out good for me as I can't make the 20th. This is the official 3 pylon AMA course complete with computerized off course timing system. This is you chance to race on an official course and see what you are made of. To me this is the most fun racing that there is. You get to fly around yourself (which I think is easier) so the sensation of speed is heightened. It sucks because it lands on our normal race weekend, but I will be there, so you should too  Grin Come on fellas...grow some hair!

Parkzone rules attached. More info here: http://www.nmpraforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4536 Map to Woodland field: http://www.wdarc.org/Map.htm

Who's in?

Red -yes
Cole- yes
Tony & Jake-maybe
Jon-?
Adam-?
Wylie-?
Jeff-?

Any others interested?
There is rumored to be a special guest appearance by Bryan Germone!

That's great looking Paul. I have flown the 100cc one and if this smaller one is anything like it, you will love it! It's a fantastic flyer. Looking forward to the build.

Guys, Steve Koll works at Airgas on Piner Rd. We use them quite a bit here at work and highly recommend them!

Andrew,

The rules are stock airframe, E-Flite power 10 outrunner, 3S battery and I'm not sure what the current spec prop is. I'm sure Adam or Jon will chime in. Give it a shot, the faster classes are a lot of fun.

If this gets some traction, we  should look into ALES (Altitude Limited Electric Soaring) type event. This allows any type of electric glider to compete on an even playing field. Basically there is a cheap module that goes in your plane and limits motor run to 30 seconds or when it reaches a pre-designated altitude (400' I think?) I know Bob Film competes in this, maybe he can give us a more info and a demonstration?

I hear we may have a new front runner! Does crashing your own plane while you aren't even flying it count?  Grin I let the culprit fess up himself.....
37  General Category / General Club Discussion / Meeting monthly Auction - 2013 on: March 10, 2013, 09:58:35 AM
Guys,

We will be doing a monthly thread to showcase auction items for the meeting. Keep an eye out here for the latest. I will continue to add pics as they come in.

First up is an ARC Ultimate Biplane. This is a large Nitro model but could certainly be converted to electric power. 56" ws, 8-9 1/2 lbs

38  General Category / General Club Discussion / Clinics? on: March 10, 2013, 09:53:39 AM
One of the things that we have been kicking around to not only benefit our members but also possibly attract some new folks is to have some kind of recurring clinic or focused "training day". The idea is that we could have several through out the season, with different topics for each one.

Some ideas are:

More learn to fly day's
Radio programming & general aircraft trimming
Advanced aerobatics
Racing
Painting and Markings (Wylie?)

What are your guys' thought on this? Any other ideas or requests? With a little feedback and light participation, this could turn into something neat.

Red took a picture with his phone, but it was too big. The site wouldn't let me post it.

Ouch!! Yeah that one hurt for sure. There is no worse feeling than watching helplessly for 10 or more agonizing seconds and knowing that there is nothing you can do...  Cry

Looking great Paul! No building yet for me. I'm buried up to my eyeballs at work, and not letting up for the foreseeable future.  Shocked

Thanks to Dan Sciacca and the UPB clib, had a great day! Started off a bit breezy and cold, but turned out real nice. For those of you who didn't make it, you missed out. These things are a blast!
