New Field Progress
Wednesday, 14 October 2015

We had a great turn-out for this morning’s work party at the new field. Our goal was to assemble the shade frames and a few other light jobs. The team had that done in less than an hour so we tackled installing all of the roof panels. 400 (maybe 4,000, wait a minute 4,000,000 ) screws later all three shade structures are fully assembled and ready for final placement. THANK TO EVERYONE who helped out this morning.

Here is a picture mid-way through today's work:

new Field 2015

We will gather together again this Saturday October 17th from 8:00 – 12:00 to install the pit coverings and move the newly assembled shade structures. We will need many hands to maneuver the rolls of astro-turf into position. Please make every effort to join us on Saturday, many hands will definitely make this light work.

Now... even BIGGER NEWS!! We expect the new runway material to arrive next week. That means we can install it on Saturday October24th. SO, lets plan on it! We are installing US 230 Aeromodeling Fabric from US Fabrics. It comes in 300’ length rolls and as the name says it is designed for outdoor model runways. This will be easier to install than our previous runway material and offer a much better surface to go with our much better location. We will plan to install the runway on Saturday October 24th again starting at 8am. Recap of Activities:

  • Saturday October 17th 8AM-Noon work party – pits layout
  • Saturday October 24 8AM RUNWAY work party

new Field 2015

Thanks to the tremendous efforts of Brian Young and his father George we made great progress at our new site this weekend. Brian and his father along with three tractors were able to complete all the grading work for our new runway and pit area. Adam Clement and I also joined in on the fun, Adam put quite a few hours on the Roller smoothing out both surfaces. I can’t thank Brian and his father enough for their time and the use of their equipment.

We are now ready to begin re constructing our flying site. We are finalizing the purchase of new runway material. We can start putting together the shade and pit areas right away.

We would like to schedule a work party on this Wednesday the 14th to assemble the shade frames and maybe a few other ‘light’ jobs. We are also planning a full work party on Saturday to put the pits together and complete the shade roof installation. As soon as we get the date for delivery of the runway material we will schedule a date for installing it on our new site. We will start both work days at 8am.

Before you show up at the work parties PLEASE be aware of the following rules at the new site:

  • No pets, no alcohol, no smoking are allowed on the property at any time.
  • There is a posted 15 MPH speed limit on the driveway, there is designated parking.
  • Please make sure you have your WCFlyer ID card available.

Looking forward to flying soon!
